Shrek Auditions

Auditions will be held on:

Friday Jan 30th from 6:00-9:30pm

Saturday Jan 31st from 1-5pm

at the Midcoast Presbyterian Church in Topsham.

Auditions will be open to all ages starting at 5 years old!

We’re excited to welcome performers of all ages to audition for our upcoming production!

This season, we’re offering two great audition options to fit a variety of schedules and interests. Our standard MYT auditions are open to anyone interested in being considered for a primary role or the main ensemble.

Everyone should plan to arrive at the START time on EITHER Friday or Saturday, only one is required.

Once you’ve finished your audition (and any side reading or dance portion, if you’re called for those), you’ll be free to head out. Parents with young children must stay for the entirety of their auditions.

Please read this entire page, including audition support, practice schedule, troupe fee, and tech week information.

Audition Questionnaire and Registration Forms

Please PRINT and fill out the Audition Form ahead of time and bring it with you to auditions.

Option 2

Main Cast Ensemble (Moderate Commitment)

· Rehearsals: Most Saturdays, plus some Mondays & Tuesdays

· Stage Time: Featured as dancers and main ensemble throughout the show

 Audition Requirements for Option 2:

Choice between group singing or solo singing

Group song "Story of my life"

*Solo song (16–32 bars) - any song will do, including selection from "Story of my life"

Dance audition (stay after singing audition)

Best For: Performers who want to dance, sing, and be actively involved in multiple scenes.

Solo singing auditions

Leads / Speaking & Singing Roles (Full Commitment)

· Rehearsals: Frequent rehearsals on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays (as called)

· Stage Time: Lead characters with solos, dialogue, and extended stage presence

· Audition Requirements for Solo Audition:

       Solo song (16–32 bars)

Dance audition (stay after singing audition)

Side reading auditions (stay after singing audition)

Best For: Performers ready for a larger role with more responsibility and rehearsal time.

All actors who want to be considered for a role with a solo or main ensemble must prepare a 16 bar/30 second cut of a song of their choosing. The song does not need to be from Shrek, but if you are trying for a specific role, we recommend preparing a song that the character sings or a song with similar content. Everyone will be considered for every role regardless of song choice.

Auditionees can bring sheet music for our pianist, Courtney, to play or sing with a karaoke track

(we'll have a Bluetooth speaker there).  Acapella auditions are accepted but not encouraged.

Dance Audition

All actors should wear clothes they can comfortably move in, and bring dance shoes if they have them.

Please do NOT wear CROCS, boots or street shoes.

Side Reading

We will have sides prepared for reading at the auditions.

Digital Auditions

Digital auditions are accepted upon request only.

Please contact Randy O'Hara at randy.ohara@midcoastyouththeater.org for more information.

Rehearsal Schedule

Mondays from 6:30-9:30pm

Tuesday from 6:30-9:30pm

Saturdays from 1-5pm

The majority of rehearsals for the ensemble & young children will take place on Saturdays. A more detailed, day-to-day rehearsal schedule will be provided after casting and throughout the rehearsal process.

Rehearsals will begin on Monday, February 23rdTech week will take place at Crooker Theater starting Thursday, April 30th, with shows running May 7-10th. Please mark your calendars.

Actors interested in auditioning should review the rehearsal schedule carefully.

Because of the condensed timeline, cast members will need to be available for the majority

of the rehearsals and must have no prior conflicts during tech & show week.

More than 1 rehearsal “no show” may result in removal from scenes/songs.

Troupe Fees

To help cover the cost of producing each show, there is a $100 troupe fee per production.

There is a $20 sibling discount for each additional family member.

Troupe fees are due at the first rehearsal.

We offer generous scholarships for families who may need financial assistance.

We’re also thrilled to introduce our “Swamp Family” Audition Option:

Perfect for families or friend groups who want to share the stage with a smaller time commitment.

Swamp Family participants will perform in our energetic opening song, "Story of my life".

After that song, they are free to leave during tech week and on show nights.

There will be fewer rehearsals for this group, making it a great option for younger performers or anyone with a limited schedule.  The reduced registration fee of $50 per person or scholarship request is due

at the first rehearsal.

Please note that in the case of a large number of auditionees, some actors may be placed in

the “Swamp Family” group only, in an effort to keep our cast size safe and manageable.
