Call for Directors

MYT 2025-26 season

We are seeking applications from experienced, highly motivated directors interested in leading creative teams for our 2025-2026 theatrical productions. Salary will be reflective of experience and expertise.

We are currently seeking directors for several productions during our 2025-26 season:

  • A 2025 fall teen show with 20-30 cast members, possibly in coordination with another local theater group,

  • A full-length, all-ages winter musical, performed in January 2026

  • A full-length, all-ages musical in the spring of 2026, performed in May 2026

  • Possible additional shows, classes, and other productions for the spring of 2026 featuring youth and/or teen performers, including programming during February and April vacations We are open to your ideas!

  • Youth and teen shows during the summer of 2026 with a focus on musical theater.

Aspiring directors must work closely with their creative teams and parent volunteers. All creative team members must be able to support the MYT mission of creating a nurturing theater experience for young people and work effectively with others.

Creative teams typically comprise a choreographer, set designer, customer, and musical director. MYT has a deep network in these areas to support our directors if they are looking to fill positions. The identification of sponsors, fundraising, and development of marketing materials for the show and show promotion are handled by MYT staff and the Board of Directors.

Show Details

MYT’s recent all-ages shows have included Wonka, Oliver!, Bye Bye Birdie, and Newsies.

Summer Youth shows are generally “Junior” versions of longer shows; and teen-only shows can include full-length musicals like Little Shop of Horrors.

Performance spaces range from full-sized theaters like Brunswick’s Crooker Theater to smaller venues such as the Horizon Center in Brunswick. We encourage applicants to suggest shows they are interested in directing, and we are open to discussing your preferences. MYT seeks directors who are excited to bring productions they are passionate about to the stage! We are also open to suggestions of non-musical productions for youths, including outdoor options if appropriate.

About MYT and its Mission

Midcoast Youth Theater’s mission is to provide youth with meaningful, safe theatrical opportunities regardless of experience or financial means.

We believe that theater can help children and teens develop social and emotional maturity, self-esteem, leadership, and the ability to work cooperatively.

Midcoast Youth Theater is a non-profit organization providing equal opportunities for all children to perform. We are an inclusive theater group, casting all children who audition for at least one of our many shows during each performance window.  We also offer financial scholarships to those who need them to participate in our programming. For our all-ages productions, we choose shows that accommodate our large casts, have expandable ensembles, and provide opportunities for children of different abilities.

The primary focus of MYT is to create opportunities for actors to learn and grow, and to have fun while doing it.
